Behind the Design: Jessie Rose Designs
How did Jessie Rose Designs come to be?
Most designers either use a fun catchy name or their own name for their “branding”. Jessie Rose Designs is a mixture of the two. Truthfully, it was the catchiest shortened version of my name I could think of. I have a last name that most people have difficultly pronouncing correctly upon first glance, even though it is surprisingly simple. I wanted something that rolled off the tongue that was a bit more flattering than all the ways to mispronounce Nosal (no-Sal. Like telling your good friend Salvatore, “No, Sal it’s not pronounced Nozel or Nozzle”).
How did I make the logo?
There were many variations of this logo that I sketched out and they all felt a little off to me. Some were too detailed while some didn’t have the right vibe. After seeing it written out, I decided to incorporate a rose symbol rather than have “Rose” written out because I felt “Jessie Rose” was a little long for a logo.
I found this lovely Beloved Sans font that felt just playful enough for the text. Since roses tend to be a very detailed flower, I decided make it look like a digital stamp for a simplistic feel. I added in a little hand-drawn “J” to the rose to tie it all together.
How did I animate it?
I knew I wanted to animate the path of the flower so it looked like it was growing, but I felt like I needed a starting board to reach the blue circle. Below were the initial storyboards that I created in Illustrator. Then I thought it would be best to combine the first two boards. All the animation was done using After Effects.
